Project : New Office in Cologne
Background
HUBI is an association that has been hosting unaccompanied foreign minors since September 2016. These are young people who come from countries devastated by wars and conflicts, and where human rights violations are very frequent. Thus, they travel long distances to Germany in order to have a better life where they can enjoy all their rights including the right to a good education. For this reason, our association welcomes them with open arms and contributes to their education by teaching them the German language, since the German courses are an integral part of their integration in their new host country. However, since 2016, as the flow of unaccompanied minors to Germany was in full swing, the association has only been operating in Bavaria, even though Bavaria comes in the third position regarding the number of minor migrants received in the country.
Objectives
In order to raise awareness of the situation of unaccompanied foreign minors and to accompany and train more young migrants, HUBI has set itself the goal of opening a second office in the city of Cologne, in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. The latter is, according to official figures, the state which receives the most unaccompanied foreign minors. Consequently, the opening of this new office will be an opportunity to expand the actions of the association, but especially to strengthen the links with the partner high schools in Cologne where every year our students are take to an excursion to establish friendly relations with fellow German students.
