Our efforts have changed their lives

Over the years, our association welcomed a lot of minors. We have the opportunity to help them with language courses and then we have been able to see their evolution and their confidence growing in the German society. Throughout the whole year, they are taught the fundamental basis of the German language and also the history of the country.

HUBI can be the ramp that would help them integrate high school or enroll in vocational training which will give them a work visa to stay in the country.

You can read below the experiences of two former minors that integrated HUBI in 2017 and 2019, Oussama and Neyla and you will know how our association helped them.

Neyla

I’ve always wanted to study in High school and HUBI gave me the knowledge of language I needed to integrate one. The courses were intense but it helped me to feel better in the country and the staffs were always really helpful whenever I was facing trouble learning the language.”

Neyla was 17 as well when she came to Germany from Libya. She didn’t have any basis in the German language as her mother language is Arabic so she was helped by one of our interpreters so it was easier for her to understand in the beginning. Neyla followed the A1 courses, when was very dedicated to learning the language and really motivated. She ended her courses with a B2 level, close to C1. After that she integrated a High School and passed her diploma, she has the ambition to study in university and do a bachelor in foreign languages German – Arabic as she wants to become a German teacher in order to teach unaccompanied isolated minors like she was. She will do civic service in an elementary school in Munich first in order to improve the German language more.

This kind of feedback are really important to us as it reminds us that our work in HUBI can change the life of the unaccompanied isolated minors, we see their progress throughout the year they are learning German in our association. Oussama and Neyla are very good an example of the results of our missions, education is really important for them to be integrated in society. They can also make some friends in our association or keep in touch with their pen pals thanks to our exchange projects.

Oussama

“Without the help of the association HUBI, I would never have been to Cologne and I wouldn’t be working in a masonry firm today. I now have a working visa which assures me to stay in Germany until all my documents are ready.”

Oussama arrived in Germany in 2016 ; he had to leave Syria because of the tense military situation. He arrived in 2017 in our association, he was 17 years old at the time and he followed German courses. He already knew how to read, write and he had few German knowledge thanks to his tutor. He participated in the trip to Cologne that we organized so he met his pen pal with whom he was corresponding. As they got along very well they stayed in contact.

Oussama was very interested in manual labor and wanted to work in the building sector. As his pen pal’s father was working at the building firm Bauer Group, Oussama contacted him to know if they had jobs to offer. Not long after he was employed there as an apprentice so he got his working visa.

We were happy to know that our project in Cologne gave him this opportunity, as he turned 18 the working visa will allow him to stay in Germany until the documents procedure is finished.
